- According to the statement - the most popular method among foreigners, which, in fact, replaced naturalization, canceled the Belgian Parliament two years ago. But what does it mean “According to the statement”? Quite simple: having lived in Belgium for five years, the alien may apply for citizenship, provided that he speaks the language of the host country (the official languages in Belgium are Flemish, recognized variant of Dutch, French and German, and can take the exam on the knowledge of one of them) holds a degree (or certificate) of any educational institution, which is recognized by Belgium, or proof of passing vocational training (duration should not be less than 400 hours), and is also actively involved in the economic life of the country (proof may serve as confirmation that person in five years of residence in Belgium, worked for 1.5 years, paying the necessary contributions to social funds). At the same time, for those who are spouses of citizens of Belgium for more than three years or has a child with Belgian citizenship (for example, born in Belgium), the observance of the third condition is not mandatory.
- For special merits Belgian passport given by Parliament after three years of residence in the country. But for this you have to demonstrate knowledge of one of the three official languages, and document your outstanding achievements in sports, science or culture.
- Investing in the country's economy - which means that a businessman can register the company in Belgium with a certain share capital, to get to work in it, and after three years to apply for a passport (subject to earnings 35 000 euro per year).
